Anaerobic Co-Digestion of Duckweed (Lemna Gibba) and Waste Activated Sludge

چکیده
In this study duckweed (Lemna gibba) and waste activated sludge (WAS) were co-digested in different proportions with acclimatized anaerobic granular sludge (AAGS) in mesophilic conditions. The aim was to evaluate if the co-digestion could lead to an increased efficiency of methane production compared to digestion of waste activated sludge alone. Results indicate that co-digestion with both duckweed and WAS, in certain proportions i.e. T4, increased the methane generation compared with digestion at other proportions. The methane generation yield in treatment setup T4 was significantly higher than the calculated in many of the proportion. The Gompertz model fits well on the experimental data of the treatment setup T4. The values of correlation coefficient were achieved relatively higher (R ≥ 0.99). The trend was that of without pre-treatment, co-digestion of duckweed and WAS did not give the same synergy.

Improvement of Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge, Using Combined Hydrogen Peroxide and Thermal Pre-Treatment
The present study investigates the influence of individual and combined hydrogen peroxide and thermal pre-treatment of waste activated sludge on anaerobic digestion. For so doing, it employs anaerobic batch reactors in the mesophilic conditions. For comparison, soluble fractions of organic matter, biogas production, biochemical methane potential, removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD), and vol...

متن کاملGrowth response of Lemna gibba L. (duckweed) to copper and nickel phytoaccumulation Effet de l’accumulation de Cu et Ni sur la croissance de Lemna gibba L. (lentilles d’eau)
To assess the tolerance and phytoaccumulation ability of the duckweed Lemna gibba L. to copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni), the aquatic plants were exposed to different concentrations of Cu and Ni (0.1 – 2.0 mg/L) in quarter Coïc and Lesaint solution at pH = 6.0 (± 0.1) and under a daily regime of 12 h light. Copper and nickel were tolerated by L. gibba at concentrations ≤ 0.3 mg/L and ≤ 0.5 mg/L, res...
متن کاملBoron removal by the duckweed Lemna gibba: a potential method for the remediation of boron-polluted waters.
Boron (B) is often found in polluted and desalinated waters. Despite its potentially environmental damaging effects, efficient treatments are lacking. The duckweed Lemna gibba has been shown to remove toxic elements from water; however, its applicability to B removal is unknown. In this study, L. gibba was examined for its tolerance to B in water and its B removal efficiency. Duckweed plants we...
متن کاملAnaerobic co-digestion of lipid-spent microalgae with waste activated sludge and glycerol in batch mode
Anaerobic co-digestion of lipid-spent Botryococcus braunii (LSBB) with waste activated sludge (WAS) and glycerol was studied. Different co-digestion mixtures were assessed in biochemical methane potential tests, performed at mesophilic temperature (35oC). The experimental methane yields obtained were compared to theoretical values calculated from the methane individual yields. No significant in...
